Engaging stakeholders to reduce abortion stigma
The work engages a number of strategic stakeholders - pharmacists, lawyers, women’s rights activists and other health workers - to reduce abortion stigma and expand access to safe abortion.

The MAMA network brings together several AmplifyChange grantees who work cross-regionally

Generation Initiative for Women and Youth Network (GIWYN) is a founding member of the MAMA Network and an AmplifyChange grantee, based in Nigeria.

GIWYN is implementing the Straightening Activists for Medical Abortion in Nigeria (SAMAN) project to provide capacity building, training, communication, hotline support and policy development in Nigeria and Cameroon.

The work engages a number of strategic stakeholders – pharmacists, lawyers, women’s rights activists and other health workers – to reduce abortion stigma and expand access to safe abortion.

SAMAN also supports pharmacists around misoprostol and mifepristone use and correct dosage, including a hotline referral system for those who are not comfortable sharing information directly with women.

Key results from the project to date:

  • 35 community health providers, including fifteen pharmacists and activists, have participated in training on medical abortion
  • 10 key influencers have made positive statements in support of medical abortion
