ICFP 2018 Opportunity grant

Opportunity grant

AmplifyChange @ ICFP2018 Opportunity Grant

This funding round is now closed.

Thank you to all who submitted applications.

AmplifyChange recognises the unique needs and challenges youth face to access comprehensive and respectful sexual and reproductive healthcare. AmplifyChange aims to support advocacy interventions that break down barriers to youth service provision, eliminate stigma around adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and increase SRHR knowledge for young people.

AmplifyChange is interested in sustainable outcomes that adopt rights-based approaches to young people’s SRHR, including putting youth voices at the forefront. We understand the difficulties that youth-led organisations and movements face in securing funding, and our mandate is to provide grants to these groups directly to encourage youth leadership in advocacy.

As part of our participation at the International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP) in Kigali, Rwanda, AmplifyChange will be offering youth-led, Southern-based organisations the chance to present their proposals for an AmplifyChange @ ICFP2018 Opportunity grant.

The grant will focus on advocacy for young people’s access to sexual and reproductive health services and information, including family planning.

A shortlist of up to 10 finalists will be invited to pitch their ideas live in front of a panel of SRHR expert judges during the final day of the Youth Pre-Conference on 12 November 2018. We will review the proposals using similar criteria to what we normally use (including the relevance of the proposed project, the potential to make sustainable impact, and the organisational profile and capacity). Due to the nature of the event, we are looking for confident, passionate advocates who aren’t afraid of public speaking.

What are we looking for?

AmplifyChange is looking to support existing or new youth-led advocacy campaigns that seek to advance access to sexual and reproductive health and rights for young people.

“Access” refers to the affordability, physical or legal accessibility, and personal, social, or cultural acceptability of services and resources, as well as the availability and adequacy of care and supplies needed to deliver services.

Examples of projects we will consider include, but are not exclusive to:

  • Advocating for budgetary and policy changes aimed at facilitating youth access to contraception, safe abortion, and other sexual health services
  • Strengthening youth-friendly or youth-centred sexual and reproductive health services by working with providers
  • Creating or building on exciting, innovative approaches to youth-focused, rights-based sexual and reproductive health information dissemination
  • Expanding the scope of sexual health education to facilitate a truly comprehensive sexuality education curriculum
  • Facilitating community dialogue to transform social norms around youth sexuality and eliminate stigma towards youth access to SRHR services

We encourage interested parties to look at our Theory of Change. This specifies the five outcome areas our grantees contribute to. Please note that whilst we will consider activities that support all five outcome areas, if more applications are recommended for funding by our application reviewers than we can fund, we will moderate in favour of projects that fulfil our fund benchmarks and results framework.

What’s on offer?

AmplifyChange will select the top five (5) proposals for Opportunity grants of EUR20,000 for projects lasting up to 12 months.

The top two (2) winners from the pitch at the Youth Pre-Conference will be invited to propose their ideas at the CEO Pitch Fest on 14 November 2018 alongside CEOs from major Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). The audience will vote for one (1) winner, who will have the chance to work with one of AmplifyChange’s Grants Support Team members to increase their project funding up to EUR40,000 for a project lasting up to 12 months.

Please note: All selected grants will be subject to a review of any financial and technical issues related to your application. Award of the grant will be dependent on due diligence checks on your organisation.

Once the due diligence checks have been completed, the successful applicants will be invited to sign a funding agreement with AmplifyChange.
