The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a widespread, long-term impact on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). We believe supporting advocacy for SRHR must be an integral element in all responses to COVID-19 to protect women and girls, vulnerable and marginalised groups.
Our new interactive policy brief outlines the key issues affecting SRHR. We profile what civil society organisations need, demonstrating how AmplifyChange grantees are adapting to the pandemic.
The current crisis highlights how important a well-supported civil society is. Advocates have a vital role to play in keeping governments, policymakers and service providers focused on prioritising SRHR.
Despite restrictions on work and home life, the pandemic has created new opportunities to improve SRHR. This is being leveraged by AmplifyChange grantees where dynamic and well-supported civil society exists. Grassroots activists and local civil society organisations have adapted their practices to continue providing access to SRHR services for the most vulnerable members of their communities, as well as making recommendations to government to ensure responses are inclusive of marginalised groups. Read about some of these cases in the report.
As we face the challenges of rebuilding from COVID-19, we all need the continued flexibility to support grassroots civil society movements in the Global South.
